Our Pilot Project - Commercial Apiary in Ilfov County, Romania: “Making it all bio-sustainable”
June 6, 2013
The objective of this project is to start a commercial honey-bee farm in a small village affected by an aged and impoverished population, by using only eco-friendly materials and renewable energy. We aim to obtain close to 100% organic honey and related products (wax, pollen etc.). We started in the spring of 2013 with 20 beehives and by the end of the first year of operation (2013) we intend to grow to at least 22 units. Among our objectives for the first year (2013) is to test the productivity levels of the enterprise and the local market's absorbtion capacity for our products. The three year plan is setting the following growth targets: 2014 (second year) – 30-40 hives; 2015 (third year) – 50-60 hives. We're keen to seeing this project grow from a very small start-up into a successful business venture that will serve many neighboring communities. We're proud to be a part of it!
Update, August 2013. We are thrilled to tell you that after less than three and a half months since the launch of this project (early May), we are already ahead of our plan for this year. Our farm has grown to 23 fully productive beehives - one more than our most optimistic target of 22 units by the end of the active year! We have also exceeded our planned targets on the production of honey and on sales revenues. And all these results were achieved considering that we have lost two productive months this year (March and April). Therefore, so far, all the economic indicators give us sound reasons to believe that we're on the right track and that this project will be a success!
